What a hectic one its been! Blardy.. been on the set of houmers film, ‘with just cause’, monday through to friday. All in all.. we are about 90% done on the filming; two small shots to go but they’ll be done later next week. The hours got really long, and work on set a bit stressful, but all up it was good, a refreshing break to get active in a team and see something happen.. beginning of the week till the end. My official role was assistant director, usually following the lines to ensure the actors are roughly close to the script, and ordering people around, and keeping the director awake heh.
Monday was really about setting up and getting everyone ready. Props still had to be obtained, the ‘vision’ for what we wanted to see still had to be finalised, and without storyboards it was a bit.. on the go. With debs setting up the lighting we were right to go for some practice shoots that night. Did a couple of real takes, but not a lot considering the entire day was spent there.. ended up with most of us heading off at 10ish and off to maccas for dinner.
Tuesday upped the pace. We had locked ourselves into night shoots, so this meant heaps of night shooting had to take place. The actors were still a bit iffy about their lines, having spend the day running around in the city doing stuff and not really having time to rehearse. When we finally got the shooting happening, we moved along and kept the pace up, plenty of screaming going on from the actors (great work morgs and shariq!) until 2am. Set up for the next set of angles while debs was still around till 3, then headed off. Fairly long day…
Wednesday, what a disaster all around lol. As I was making my way home the other night, I noticed I was really really low on fuel (but should have had a bit more left). The transmission was slipping all over the place, acceleration was weak, and once I put my foot down and nothing happened, until a second later when it shifted and then took effect. Kinda creepy heh. Anyhow so the next day, the first thing on the to do list was to get fuel. Drove down to the servo not too far from here…. on the way the car was doing the ‘no acceleration’ thing, until finally it just wouldnt accelerate anymore - I was just coasting along the main road, engine finally cutting out when I slowed to 20kmh. So there I was, stuck, with no fuel, and the servo down the road. So began the adventure… first asked the mechanics I’d stopped close to if they had some fuel in a can I could borrow to get the car started. No luck. So I went down to the servo and asked them if they had a can I could fill up with. No luck. Maybe if you try the other servo further down the road. Great! urgh. Finally get down there, ask them if they had a can - haha nope, but you can try the mechanics out the back. I go ask them, and they said yeah man, ask at the front counter. Fuckin idiot at the counter, ‘ohh yeah, this one’. Pfft. Put my deposit down on that and fill up, then back to my car. Finally get back to my car, then I realise - urgh I need a funnel or a tube or something else the petrol splashes all over the side of my car, as nothing ‘opens’ the metal seal of the fuel tank. Thankfully the mechanics I’m near has a funnel I can borrow, and with that (while too big), I get maybe 10% of what I’m pouring actually into the tank. The rest is in the gutter, ah well. So I try the car…. and it starts, cool. Go down the road to the servo, fill up, return the funnel, then go return the bloody tin and get my deposit back. All in all an hour gone! lol. Lesson learned… carry a tin and a funnel with you in the car at all times ![]()
So as far as filming goes.. well started late, but we kept on.. and on.. and on… with a director who was asleep, sean and I kept cracking the whip and ensuring progress was made - until fucking 5.30am. So my day started at 2pm and ended at 5.30am, fantastic. We got a lot done, all the interrogation stuff, so finally filming was over for that main chunk. Long long long day… urgh.
Thursday… slept for most of it. Decided to turn up late for filming, I called and found out they’d shot a short scene in the morning but it had started raining… and everyone was tired, so they went off for lunch and called it a day. Cool. Let me catch up on some rest. So tired..
Friday, another long one, but time pressured because we had to be done between 9-10pm due to restrictions on our location. The day shoot at morgans went well, though started three hours late or so. All in all we caught up on time a bit. Got to the final location - the office - in which I was to act lol. After burning out two lights (blardy), being interrupted by all the noise in the industrial area, and causing a bit too much laugher, we had it done! The scene went well (even if I felt like a fool when being filmed), but the others seemed to like it. All in all, its fucking over
Went well too. Had red centre again for dinner, then.. an early night heh.
Now today… I’m tired still (blardy)… and nothing exciting is happening at all. Back to the boring grind. Gotta spice it up. Gotta be careful of a few things as well, ensuring a few short term decisions I have to make dont come back to bite me in the future… need to be really careful. More on that later.. maybe.
Another rest day tmr, then back to work monday. Ninja style.
